Narcissism and The Hike

It's been a week since I quit my job. That's not entirely true - my internship contract just ended but 'quit my job' was more of a powerful opening sentence so here we are. Helena texted me the next day saying how much she missed me already (some artistic liberty may have been taken on this sentence) and suggested we go check out Selfie Coffee.

I've been to Haji Lane a couple of times and walked by Selfie Coffee, but I've never tried it because all the while I thought that they just printed your picture on a plastic lid. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the picture was printed on WHIPPED CREAM!!! We each got a cold frappe which cost $8.50. Pretty expensive but the coffee was really good, albeit a little sweet, so if you were to compare it to a regular Starbucks, this was quite worth the money.

Apparently, something that people find satisfying to do is to swirl the cream where their face is and Helena did that. I didn't want to ruin it so I just drank the coffee and watched the cream concave until the picture was super warped LOL

We then walked around the Haji Lane/Arab Street area a bit, looking like tourists and popping into all the overpriced shops selling Singapore souvenirs. We also went around finding non-mainstream places to take Instagram photos. Here are the highlights, taken right below where a durian party was happening. We were not invited to said party.

After that, we took the train to Labrador Park to hike the Southern Ridges trail. Grabbed some Macs on the way in and had to devour it quickly to escape the bloodsuckers. Fun times - I got bitten 4 times and they're still itchy.

The view when we reached the metal bridges/ramps was really good. The lighting was also gorgeous since it was golden hour by the time we reached the midsection of the trail. We took lots of pictures and continued walking a lot.

Had to hike some more to reach Henderson Waves, which was where the prime Instagram action was. Saw lots of runners and envied them. Also took lots of photos to commemorate the moment before we left the place and the bloodsuckers for good that day. Final verdict: would come back, but with better clothes, no makeup and mosquito repellent next time. Still had been a really great trip!
